Comments:
The H&K P30 from Umarex
is a very realistic replica of the H&K P30 firearm. The
slide is made of metal and painted flat black. The finish on the
metal slide is not as nice as that on other Umarex pistols in
this price range. The frame is made from a black polymer
material and includes a Picatinny style rail in front of the
trigger guard. The ambidextrous mag release and decocking button function as they do on the firearm.
The left side slide release lever is used to open the slide for
installing the 8-shot pellet magazine. The slide release lever on
the right side is cosmetic. This is a
non-blowback design, so the slide does not move. The two-stage
trigger can be fired double action or single action. When used
in double action mode, the first stage is short and smooth. The
second stage is long and rough since the trigger also rotates
the pellet magazine and retracts the transfer bar.
This makes the break point unpredictable. The same is true for
the trigger in single action mode.
This air pistol has a unique system for shooting both lead
pellets and steel BBs. It uses the standard Umarex rotary 8-shot metal
magazine for holding lead pellets. The BB magazine holds 17 BBs
as well as the CO2
cylinder. When shooting BBs, an
adapter is installed in place of the 8-shot pellet magazine. The
owner's manual warns to never load and
shoot pellets and BBs at the same time. Lead pellets, steel BBs,
and lead BBs were tried in the H&K P30. However, the loading mechanism would not
handle lead BBs reliably so no test results are reported for
them. Even with steel BBs, the P30 would sometimes jam or not
feed BBs properly. Removing the magazine usually resulted in one
or more BBs fall out of the bottom of the grip. The Umarex H&K P30 has good accuracy
(with pellets) and
power, but could definitely use a better trigger. This air
pistol would make a good trainer for those who own the H&K P30
firearm.
Performance (lead pellets):
Measurements were made on
10/15/09 at a temperature of 68 ºF and 14' elevation. A ten shot
string was fired from a bench rest at 15' using JSB Match
Diabolo pellets (7.4 gr).
The highest velocity measured was 377 fps, the lowest was 349 fps
(average of the 10-shot string was 361 fps, s = 10). A six shot string
fired with open sights grouped at 0.56". Click the thumbnail below to see a
larger image.

The H&K P30 was tested with the
following pellets: Gamo Match, JSB Match Diabolo, H&N Finale
Match, Crosman Premier Match, RWS Hobby, and JSB Match S100. The
gun shot well with all of these pellets, but the smallest group
was produced with the JSB Match Diabolo pellets.

Performance (steel BBs):
Measurements were made on
5/12/10 at a temperature of 76 ºF and 14' elevation. A ten shot
string was fired from a bench rest at 15' using Daisy Avanti BBs (5.5 gr).
The highest velocity measured was 430 fps, the lowest was 388 fps
(average of the 10-shot string was 414 fps, s = 15). A six shot string
fired with open sights grouped at 1.30". Click the thumbnail below to see a
larger image.

The H&K P30 was tested with the
following BBs shown with their respective six shot group sizes:
Daisy Avanti (1.30"), Crosman Copperhead (1.70"), RWS Match
Grade (1.43"), and Daisy Precision zinc plated (1.55").
