Comments: Daisy introduced this single-shot replica of the famous Beretta semi-auto at a time when most other replicas were repeaters. It didn't last long on the market. This is a powerful airgun with very good accuracy. The Model 500 is the immediate predecessor to the 6XX series, which is essentially the same gun with the addition of a six-shot rotating clip. Unlike the Model 92, which preceded the Model 500, the Model 500 has the Daisy logo on the grip instead of the Beretta logo. Good examples of the Daisy 500 are getting pretty hard to find.

Performance: Measurements were made on 8/28/06 at a temperature of 86 F and 14' elevation. A ten shot string was fired from a bench rest at 15' using JSB Match Diabolo pellets (8.0 gr). The highest velocity measured was 467 fps, the lowest was 433 fps (average of the 10-shot string was 454 fps). A six shot string fired with open sights grouped at 0.55". Loading Pellets: Single-shot. There is no spring release for the barrel. To raise the back of the barrel for loading, simply grasp the area labeled "OPEN" and pull up. I have a suspicion that many of these guns broke at the front hinge when too much force was used to open the back of the barrel. The 6XX series of Daisy pistols uses a spring and latch system for opening and closing the barrel.
